Ioannina local officials discuss migration challenges

Local authorities in and around the city of Ioannina, northern Greece, held a broad meeting on Tuesday to discuss potential challenges related to the relocation and accommodation of migrant foreign nationals in the region.
The Ioannina region’s vice-governor and the city’s deputy mayor and the mayors of Pogoni, Konitsa and Ziros – some of the areas that already host migrants and asylum seekers – discussed the issue with representatives of Greek Police, of the UN Refugee Agency, of the International Organization for Migration and other NGOs ahead of possible arrivals of more refugees.
Some 3,500 migrants are currently accommodated across the region of Epirus, in reception facilities, hotels and apartment rentals.
