Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Tuesday spoke on the phone with the Commissioner for Competition Margrethe Vestager on the provision referring to the incompatibility of the members of the Competition Commission, said a EU spokesperson.
“The Greek prime minister briefed Vestager on the current situation. Generally, the Commission takes into account the adoption of a new legislation by the local parliament that includes the provision on the incompatibility in the Greek Competition Commission. We are in contact with the Greek authorities on the matter” said the EU representative adding that “he warmly supports the independence of the national competition authorities”.
Moreover, the same EU representative added “the good collaboration between the national competition authorities is important and can only be guaranteed through their independence. This is also the target of the relevant European directive that must be implemented in all EU state members before February 4, 2021”
